A therapeutic avenue of expression and creativity can be found through encouraging art with children at our schools. Due to the spartan conditions at FLAME schools, art supplies are generally in limited, making it difficult for teachers to give much time to art in the curriculum, however nearly every FLAME school contains walls displaying beautiful images by the children. It was for this reason that FLAME decided to encourage art competitions and workshops. The art workshops have been a roaring success and have been running since February 2006 in the Karachi area.
The FLAME team decided to choose one spotlight FLAME school every two months to hold an art contest and then display the children's work on our promotional material as well as on our website. Members of the team visit the school and give them art supplies with which to work with. The children are then told that their work will be displayed on the internet as well as in other venues. Many of the FLAME pupils had never used glitter before or had their very own piece of coloured paper and pastels.
It is a great feeling for the children to see their work on display, giving them a sense of pride, achievement and hope.
We also offer the children prizes for the three best drawings. Rs. 500 plus art supplies for the first prize; Rs. 250 plus art supplies for the second prize; Rs. 150 plus art supplies for the third prize. Our first theme was to draw something about your city.
Enjoy the children's expressions your self!
