Brief History |
| |
FLAME was established in 2001 in Islamabad by Ambassador (Rtd) Mansoor Alam. Ambassador Alam during one of his visits to Landhi Town, Karachi, Pakistan, was amazed by the enthusiasm of the children to learn to read and write, during his conversation with them he realized the great fundamental need to provide basic literacy in communities where no schooling was available.
He consulted with the Literacy Commission of Pakistan who also expressed the need for an organization that would fill the void in the non-formal education system to help increase literacy in the country.
Ambassador Alam's approach was simple to create home-based schools within the communities that would provide literacy for all the children of that community. His approach was scalable and low-cost. In the last ten years 60,000 children have graduated from FLAME schools. |
